在中国五大传统民居中，你是否曾想过它们的故事？一代侨商巨子郑午楼的心系故土，反哺桑梓，他的一生致力于慈善事业，将潮汕善堂文化传遍东南亚。在郑午楼故居，我们触摸到了50多年慈善的根脉。
新午楼故居外观，展现了东里寨的旅泰侨领郑午楼博士故居。创新设计的扇形通风门楣窗，让光影穿梭其中。新午楼故居主座书斋门楼上镌刻着清末民初书法家朱汝珍的格言书法，落款处题有“岁次丁丑七月”字样。这间书斋曾一度崩塌荒废，在20世纪80年代初由村里出资进行了重修保护，使书斋初步恢复了原貌。
保存完好的润德居后厅，是整落住宅群中保存最为完好的部分，前后厅闪门，屋檐、门楣、窗楣装饰基本保持了原貌。门楣上开成窗户通风采光，与房间中的后窗形成对流，起到了通风采光的作用。窗户形状多样，饰以简约线条，从宅第取名可以看出，郑氏家族特别注重德行修养，以居所命名表达以德行滋养家风并将之发扬光大的愿望。
郑振强带着记者一行来到寨内西侧寨墙下的一间旧屋，这里就是郑午楼出生及童年生活的祖居。他在村里的思承学校读过一段时间，然后被家人带往泰国。在这里，他见到东里寨中大埕及巷道路面崎岖破损，并且随后还出资对其进行了修复。
这座新午楼故居位于新东里三巷，其入口正对着巷子，一进去便是一处大埕，上面坐着四点金宅第，当时作为家族的书斋之用。这座书斋是根据地制宜，使场地得到更好更合理利用，也体现了家族对教育的重视。每次回国，都会祭拜先人，这是郑氏家族的一个传统活动。

Zheng Zuoqiang, a renowned philanthropist and entrepreneur, was born in 1913 in Chaozhou, Guangdong Province. He spent his childhood in the East Li Village, where he developed a strong sense of patriotism and responsibility towards his homeland. His father, Zheng Zuoqiang's father-in-law was also a well-known philanthropist who had contributed to the development of education and culture in the region.
Zheng Zuoqiang studied at various institutions including the University of Hong Kong and later became a successful businessman with interests in banking, insurance, brewing industries etc. However, he never forgot his roots or lost sight of his responsibilities as an overseas Chinese. In fact,
Zheng Zuoqiang's contributions to society were recognized by many organizations including being appointed as chairman for four terms at the Thai Bankers Association (TBA) which made him one among the most influential figures within Thailand's financial industry.
His greatest legacy however is not just business acumen but also for spreading Chinese culture abroad through establishing charitable organizations like "The China Foundation" which aimed at promoting educational opportunities for young people from underprivileged backgrounds.
